GP Swamp Warrior

The important person in this photo is, of course, Teddy, who managed to photo bomb a shot meant for an Australian news story. This is apparently his “best side”.

I was trying to look serious….

Welcome to my site, where I’ve tried to collect all. of my presentations, papers, research news, reflections and any other content that may be of use to others.

I am an Australian Professor of general practice with clinical, research, teaching and policy expertise in mental health, doctors’ health, health service design, value based healthcare, sexual safety, ethics and professionalism. I have worked as the lead medical educator for GP training in Australia, and have had policy roles in local, state and federal governments. I am a proud Fellow of the RACGP, ACRRM and the Australian Society of Psychological Medicine.

I have academic appointments at the University of Adelaide, the Australian National University and the University of Melbourne and I still practice as a GP in Canberra, in the Australian Capital Territory.

I write extensively for the medical and mainstream press, and have a long history of running workshops and other teaching activities. You can link to these in the address bar. You are welcome to use this work as long as you attribute the source.

My main projects at the moment are:

“I love my job, but it’s time to go” a qualitative research project looking at why female GPs leave clinical practice

Sexual harassment between doctors: healing the culture of medicine across the world” an international text with Cambridge University Press

The “GP journal” series, where each reflective journal provides CPD options (including “measuring outcomes” points) for those interested in the art of general practice
